Professor in the Media Research Department of the Institute of Journalism and Social Communication at UWM, she graduated from the Jagiellonian University in Krakow with a degree in Polish and film studies, and received her doctorate there and a postdoctoral degree in art sciences.
She served as head of the Department of Film Television and New Media and Director of the Institute of Journalism and Social Communication. She is a pioneer in the study of religious cinema in Poland as the author of the book “Poetics of Religious Film.” Her love for Polish cinema that gives food for thought led to a monograph on the work of Krzysztof Zanussi, while the fruit of her fascination with Italy and the art of filmmaking that appeals to the viewer with the beauty of the image and the power of emotion is a book about Valerio Zurlini. M Marczak has published, among others, in “Film Studies”, “Ethos”, “Studia Religiologica “, “Images”, “Journal of Religion and Film”.
She has served on ecumenical juries on behalf of SIGNIS World Catholic Organization for Communication in Hungary, Italy, Switzerland (Locarno FF), and France (Cannes), among others. Outside the movie theater, she enjoys swimming, gardening, and driving the winding community roads of Warmia and Mazury.
