The “Prison Movie” Film Workshops

The “Prison Movie” Film Workshops are a project organized as part of the International Film Festival in Olsztyn “Prison Movie.” Participants take part in professional classes, learning the entire filmmaking process—from screenwriting to editing. The training program includes: screenwriting, camera operation, learning how to light a set and a model, sound recording, and editing footage. Practical exercises include, among other things, the use of various types of lighting and filming in different lighting conditions, testing different lighting setups, lighting design, exercises in camera movement, dialogue, and staging, shooting from various angles and perspectives, and group work on short-form projects.
The workshops are held at the Center for Education and Cultural Initiatives, and the event is organized by the Regional Inspectorate of the Prison Service in Olsztyn and the Olsztyn Detention Center.
Participants in the second edition of the “Prison Movie” Film Workshops, held in Olsztyn from May 18–21, 2026, represented the Penitentiary in Biała Podlaska, Nysa, Chmielów, Rawicz, Potulice, and Olsztyn Detention Center.
The works created during the workshops, as well as productions related to the topic of penology from around the world, are presented and awarded during the annual “Prison Movie” Festival in Olsztyn.
